As July comes to an end, we are now just 37 days away from Printers Row Lit Fest, the largest free outdoor literary showcase in the Midwest located right here in Chicago.
We're going all out this year. Not 1 day. Not 2 days. We've got a weeklong celebration. So, get out those calendars. Here are a few save-the-dates.
If you're interested in any of these events, send me an email (chris@longoverduebooks.com) or stay tuned for the August newsletter with formal sign-ups and Eventbrite links.
Sunday - Sept. 1
Stumbled on this brewery by chance on a bike ride last year and the moment I saw that name (Printers Row Brewing) I was determined to make it part of the 2024 festivities.
The plan - We'll meet at the Diversey Driving range (141 W Diversey Pkwy) at Noon and ride over. It's not a long ride, just under 9 miles there.
Books. Bikes. Beer. Can't beat that combination!
Monday - Labor Day
Nothing on the calendar, but just an encouragement to carve out some time on Labor (of love) Day for some writing. Continue writing your book, start a new one, or brainstorm ideas on a walk. Or a bike ride.
Wednesday - Sept. 4
Most important day of my week: my son, Caleb, turns 3! (fun fact, my brother's birthday and mom's dad are also on September 4. Three generations of birthdays on the same day)
No Long Overdue events. I'll be watching Caleb dive head-first into cake and ice cream. But I am setting up a special sale on our site. That day it will be buy 2 books, get a 3rd book free.
And you know what, I'm coming up with this right now, also for that Wednesday, I'll make my book (Here or There) available for $3. Why not!
Thursday - Sept. 5
Earlier this week, I realized we have now published 10 children's books. It's our most popular category and I'd love to see that number get to 100 someday.
Right now, this webinar is the least "baked" of all the events, but I've got a few ideas cooking.
The overall premise is to help anyone who's thinking about, just started, or has written a draft of a children's book and is looking for help on what to do next. It'll likely be held from 8 to 9 pm central.
Friday - Sept. 6
The Yankees are in town playing the Cubbies. This is gaining momentum with a few Long Overdue authors (myself included) headed to the day game at 1:20 pm. If you'd like to join, let me know. I'll also organize a meet-up afterward in Wrigleyville. Or D'Agostino's on Addison and Southport.
And shoutout to Adam Hersh, we'll be celebrating the launch of his book that evening over at Lou Malnati's.
Saturday, Sept. 7 - Sunday, Sept. 8
Now for the main event. Printers Row Lit Fest. Just like last year, we'll have 2 exhibitor tables. Exact location/table numbers coming in the August newsletter.
I love this festival. First time going last year, I was blown away by just how big the event was. Tons of tents and tables. Speakers. Events. Lot of great publishers and authors in attendance. We plan to be here every year and would love to connect at one of our tables!
After the festivities on Saturday, we'll head over to First Draft (a couple blocks away) and keep the celebration going.
And maybe do some Borchers' family headstands...
I'm even more fired up now from writing this newsletter. Can't wait for this Printers Row Week!
Is it September yet!?
"Wow, sounds awesome!
Then how 'bout a whole week of sailing afterwards?"
- Crash, Team Dog
